Trio Named NWCA 2020 Scholar All-Americans

A trio of Gophers grapplers were honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) this week as Bailee O'Reilly, Hunter Ritter, and Gable Steveson were all named 2020 Scholar All-Americans.
The academic award is the first from the NWCA for each wrestler, but each was also named Academic All-Big Ten earlier this year alongside five other teammates.
O'Reilly, a Goodhue native, earned an NCAA qualification in his first season as a starter while also maintaining his academics as an agricultural business major. O'Reilly finished the season with a 22-11 record with 11 dual victories for the Maroon and Gold.
Ritter, a three-time NCAA Qualifier finishing his career in Dinkytown, earned an at-large bid to the 2020 tournament after a 25-11 season featuring a sixth-place finish at the Midlands Championships.
Steveson adds yet another honor to his impressive list with the academic recognition. The 2020 Big Ten Heavyweight Champion and the top-seed nationally entering the tournament, Steveson also excelled in the classroom pursuing his sports management major. The Apple Valley native was also named the April 2020 Student-Athlete of the month by our Lindahl Academic Center.
