MINNEAPOLIS – Two members of the Minnesota men's golf team were recognized by the Big Ten Monday, as the league's season awards were announced.
Junior Angus Flanagan was a unanimous First-Team All-Big Ten selection, while freshman Connor Glynn was placed on the All-Big Ten Second Team and was the school's sportsmanship honoree.
Already recognized as a third-team All-American by Golfweek and Golf Coaches Association of America and a member of the Division I PING Midwest All-Region team, Flanagan becomes the first Gopher to be first-team all-conference since Jose Mendez in 2015.
Flanagan is ranked 29th in the Golfweek Men's Collegiate Individual Rankings, as he posted a 69.33 stroke average through five tournaments in the fall season. He tallied three top-10 finishes including medalist honors at the Macdonald Cup while also placing second at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate just over one week later.
In addition to his scoring average, the Woking, England, native led the Golden Gophers this fall in percentage of scores counted (96.7), rounds under par (11), tournaments leading the team (4), top-10 finishes (3) and top-20 finishes (3).
A Waconia, Minn., native, Glynn joined Flanagan as the only Gophers to compete in all five tournament sthis fall, and he finished as the No. 2 scorer for Minnesota behind Flanagan with an average score of 71.33. Glynn was also second on the squad with six rounds under par, 86.1 percent of his rounds counting toward the team score, while his two top-20 finishes tied for second most.
Glynn finished 24th or better in four of the five tournaments in the fall, including a fifth-place finish at the Macdonald Cup in late September. He twice recorded rounds of 68, doing so at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate and Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, while the Maui Jim also saw him card his best 54-hole score (207) and best tournament score to par (-3).
With Flanagan and Glynn each earning Big Ten accolades, it's the first time that Minnesota has had multiple honorees in the same season since Victor Almstrom and Clayton Rask were each on the first team in 2008.
Minnesota men's golf had its spring season halted on March 12, 2020, when the Big Ten and NCAA announced they were ceasing competitions and championships because of COVID-19 public health concerns.
