Gopher alumna Kelly Terry looks back on her time representing the Maroon & Gold.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The 2019-20 season marked the 23rd season of Gopher women's hockey. Twenty-two years of student-athletes set the foundation for where the program is today, and it's time to reconnect with them. Up next in our alumni spotlight is Kelly Terry.

Terry, a native of Whitby, Ontario, played for the Gophers from 2010-11 to 2013-14. She appeared in 158 career games for the Maroon & Gold, recording 155 career points with 57 goals and 98 assists. A three-time All-WCHA honoree, Terry was part of back-to-back national championship teams as a sophomore and junior. She completed her degree in biology, earning two WCHA Scholar-Athlete awards and three WCHA All-Academic honors along with being named the 2014 WCHA Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year. Find out where life has taken Terry since her days on the University of Minnesota campus.

Gopher Sports: Where has life taken you since you graduated from the University of Minnesota?

Kelly Terry: Since graduating from the U, I spent three years living and playing hockey in Toronto before moving to the sunshine state for grad school at Nova Southeastern University.

GS: Where do you currently live/work?

KT: I am currently living in Deerfield Beach, Florida! There is not much hockey or ice around here so I have started to pick up playing beach volleyball and surfing while also working on my golf game!

GS: What personal or professional accomplishment(s) are you most proud of since you graduated from the University of Minnesota?

KT: I completed my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree this month finalized with a virtual graduation thanks to COVID. I am scheduled to take my board exam in July of this year and have accepted a job at a training facility in Florida.

GS: What is your favorite memory about your time as a Gopher on the ice? Off the ice?

KT: There are SO many favourite memories about my time as a Gopher. One that stands out were our post-game locker-room celebrations to the season's win song. Those songs still strike a cord with me to this day and are always played at reunions with teammates, weddings etc! Memories away from the ice are also plentiful— scooter gang rides to the lake, cottage weekends, holidays at teammates' houses whose family became my family, team workouts, prank wars, late night study sessions, team bus rides singing karaoke… the list goes on!

GS: What are you most proud of from your time as a Gopher?

KT: It is a tie between the two national championships and our 62 game win streak starting near the end of my sophomore year and ending in my senior year. The team and culture we had through that time was incredible. It's fun to win!

GS: What advice would you give your college self/current Gophers?

KT: I would tell myself the cliché "enjoy every moment" because it truly does go by so fast!
Also, "don't let Baylee GIllanders box dye your hair brown" (she did a good job, but it was not a good look for me!)

GS: How did your college hockey career help prepare you for life after college?

KT: I owe so much to the Gopher Women's hockey program and being a college hockey player for shaping me into the person I am today. I gained confidence and became a better leader while surrounded by so many incredible ladies. I also try to live by Coach JJ's favourite phrase to "chose joy!" =D

GS: Who is a Gopher Women's Hockey player you have enjoyed watching play after you graduated and why?

KT: I will never get sick of watching the offensive prowess of Hannah Brandt! I would have died for her goal-scoring ability back in my glory days!
