Junior ranks 24th all-time in rushing at Minnesota

Minnesota running back Mohamed Ibrahim was named a preseason candidate for the 2020 Doak Walker Award today by PwC SMU Athletic Forum. Forum annually presents the award to the nation's top college running back.

Ibrahim ranks 24th on Minnesota's career rushing list with 1,764 yards despite playing in only 21 games. His 5.58 yards per carry average ranks seventh all-time in school history (minimum 200 carries).

In 2019, he played in 11 games splitting time with Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks and rushed 114 times for 604 yards and seven touchdowns.

In 2018, he was forced into a feature role as a freshman as Smith and Brooks were dealing with injuries. That year, he rushed 217 times for 1,160 yards (second most ever for a Gopher freshman) and nine touchdowns. He rushed for more than 100 yards in five games to become the first Gopher freshman to do so since Laurence Maroney (five 100-yard games) in 2003. Ibrahim also set a freshman single-game record with 224 yards against Georgia Tech (most by a Gopher in a single game since Maroney ran for 258 yards against Wisconsin in 2005) in the 2018 Quick Lane Bowl and produced the 12th-best rushing game in school history.

Ibrahim is Minnesota's record holder for most career bowl game rushing yards with 364, as he rushed for 140 against Auburn in the 2020 Outback Bowl and churned out 224 against Georgia Tech in 2018 Quick Lane Bowl.
