MINNEAPOLIS -- The 2020 Roy Griak Invitational has been canceled in accordance with the Big Ten Conference's move to Conference-only regular-season scheduling for fall sports, including men's and women's cross country.
The health, safety, and wellness of the student-athletes, coaches, officials, fans, and others associated with sport programs, athletic events, and campus remains the number one priority.
The Big Ten Conference announced last week that if the Conference is able to participate in fall sports (men's and women's cross country, field hockey, football, men's and women's soccer, and women's volleyball) based on medical advice, it will move to Conference-only schedules in those sports. Details for these sports will be released at a later date. By limiting regular-season competition to other Big Ten institutions, the Conference will have the greatest flexibility to adjust its own operations throughout the season and make quick decisions in real-time based on the most current evolving medical advice and the fluid nature of the pandemic.
In addition to canceling the Griak Invitational, Minnesota will not host the Oz Memorial, Rocky's Run, or Jack's Twilight Run in fall 2020 with hopes that all of the program's annual cross country meets can return in the future.
The 2020 Gopher men's and women's cross country competition schedules will be announced at a later date.
