Minnesota will not hold any athletic-related activities on Nov. 3
The University of Minnesota athletic department announced that it will not conduct any athletic-related activities on November 3, which is Election Day. By not conducting any athletic-related activities, Minnesota's student-athletes will now have more time and flexibility to head to the polls and cast their vote.
"Voting is a fundamental human right, and we encourage our student-athletes to exercise that right on Election Day," said Director of Athletics Mark Coyle. "Our student-athletes are the leaders of tomorrow and there is no better way to make sure their voice is heard than by voting on November 3."
Minnesota has traditionally had strong voter turnout among its student body. In 2018, the Twin Cities campus won the state, Big Ten and national championships in student voter turnout with 58.7% of the student body voting. Minnesota's flagship campus had a higher voter turnout than 44 states in 2018.
