Center averages 13.3 points per game, 6.9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks

University of Minnesota center Liam Robbins was named a top 10 candidate for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award today. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame made the announcement and the award recognizes the top centers in men's college basketball.

A national committee of college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in November, which has now been narrowed to 10.

Robbins, in his first season at Minnesota, has become an impact player for the Gophers. He averages 13.3 points per game (22nd in the Big Ten), 6.9 rebounds (11th in the Big Ten) and 2.6 blocks (first in the Big Ten).

This recognition is the latest in a series of laurels for the Minnesota center. He was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Jan. 4 and Jan. 18. In addition he was named the USBWA National Player of the Week on Jan. 5 and was the Naismith Trophy Award Player of the Week on Jan. 18.

Minnesota guard Marcus Carr was also recently named a top ten candidate for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award. Minnesota and Illinois (Ayo Dosunmu - Cousy, Kofi Cockburn - Abdul-Jabbar) are the only schools with a student-athlete on each list.
