Day 1 in Iowa City saw the Gophers go 4-2 in singles play and 4-0 in doubles matches.
The Gophers started off the ITA Central Regional with a pair of convincing wins; Dalila Said and Anfisa Danilchenko both won straight sets respectively. Lucy Lu fell in a close match with a 20 point tiebreaker being split 11-9 in Arkansas State's favor. Zeyneb Sarioglan wrapped up the first round of Minnesota's singles matches, losing a close battle in the tiebreaker set 10-8. Upon advancing, Dalila Said and Anfisa Danilchenko each were drawn against players from SIUE. Said improved to 2-0 on the day, defeating Reinicke 6-4, 6-1; while Anfisa Danilchenko took on Amber Hochstatter, cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 victory. The Gophers totalled a 4-2 overall record in singles play, with Said and Danilchenko advancing to the main draw tomorrow.
Evening play consisted of doubles matches in the round of 64. All 4 Gophers pairings were given byes into this round, as other pairings qualified in the morning. Dalila Said and Emilee Duong faced off against Girbau and Skobkareva (South Dakota), after going 2-0 as a pair at the Gopher Invitational. They advanced to 3-0 on the year, winning 6-1. Vasia Karvouni and Maria Rozzolo took on the pair of O'Donnell/Sutherland (Arkansas), winning 6-4. Lucy Lu and Anfisa Danilchenko played Vasquez/Ventura (Missouri), looking to improve on their 2-0 start together. Doing just that; they breezed past Missouri, en route to a 6-1 win. Ekin Ercetin and Rachel Hanford rivaled Haagensen/Stepan (Drake), rounding the day out with a 6-4 win. The Gophers ended their first day 4-0 in doubles play.
