Fall Season Ends with 11th Place Finish

MINNEAPOLIS - On the course for the final time during the fall portion of its 2021-22 slate, the University of Minnesota women's golf team wrapped up play at the first ever Olde Stone Intercollegiate Tuesday. The Gophers concluded the event with an 11th place finish (311-309-312--932).Ā
Louisville, currently ranked 31st in the nation, took home the team title with a 28-over 892 total. Tiffany Arafi of Coastal Carolina claimed individual honors at 3-under for the tournament (68-71-74--213).
Joanne Free used an 8-over 80 final round score for a team-best finish in a tie for 26th (74-76-80--230). It was the second time in as many events that she was the Gophers' top finisher.Ā
Junior Emma Carpenter was three shots back of Free and tied for 34th (78-81-74--233). She led the team with four birdies in the final round and improved her score by seven strokes between the second and third rounds.
Grace Curran finished in a tie for 49th after an 8-over final round (79-77-80--236). An eagle on No.10 highlighted her day. Geraldine Wong finished one stroke behind Curran in a tie for 52nd (80-77-80--237).
Posting her best round of the tournament, junior Leah Herzog had a final round score of 6-over 78. She carded a 241 (84-79-78) to claim a tie for 64th.Ā
The Olde Stone Intercollegiate marked the fourth and final fall tournament for Minnesota, with two of them resulting in top-10 finishes. The Golden Gophers are back in action Jan. 31- Feb. 1 for the Big Ten Match Play in Innisbrook, Fla. It will be the first of six regular season tournaments in the spring for Minnesota.
