MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota Gopher Bethany Hasz has been named the Big Ten Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, as was announced by the Big Ten Wednesday afternoon.
Hasz is coming off of a tenth place finish at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational, where she finished the women's Blue Division 5k in a Big Ten best time of 16:31.6. Minnesota would go on to finish fifth in the team standings with 192 points, the highest finish of any Big Ten school in attendance.
The honor is the second of the season for Hasz, who won the same award in mid-September after finishing third at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational in a Big Ten best time of 20:47.2. It also marks the third of her career in cross country and sixth overall.
Hasz and the Gophers will take a week off of competition this weekend before they toe the line at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Oct. 15 in Madison, Wis. The event is slated to begin at 11 a.m. CT, with the women's "A" race set for 12:20 p.m. and the men's at 1:00 p.m.
