STARTING FIVE
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team advanced to the Asheville Championship game after a 73-69 win over Western Kentucky Friday night in Asheville, N.C. With the win, the Golden Gophers improved to 2-0 on this young season.
Jamison Battle used a red-hot first half in which he hit 5-of-9 three-pointers to propel him to a team-high 20 points, his first 20-point game at Minnesota. Battle was limited to two points after the break, but he added six rebounds, two assists and a steal while playing the full 40 minutes for the Gophers. The five treys was one off his career-high of six, which he accomplished three times while at George Washington. Payton Willis was close behind with 19 points and six rebounds, while E.J. Stephens finished with 18 points and five boards.  Willis had 12 points after the half, and Stephens had 10. Eric Curry was 5-of-10 from the field to reach double-figures with 11 points, and he led the Gophers with seven rebounds.
• The Golden Gophers will face Princeton Sunday night, as the Tigers defeated South Carolina, 66-62 in the second game of the night. Jaelin Llewellyn led the Tigers with 16 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field, including a 4-for-8 effort from three, while also tying for the team-high in rebounds with nine. Junior Ryan Langborg also made four three pointers and added 13 points
• Minnesota is 3-0 all-time against the Princeton Tigers. The last time the Golden Gophers played Princeton dates back to when head coach Ben Johnson was on the roster, Jan. 10, 2004. Minnesota led by as many as 11 at 43-32 with 10 minutes left in the game. Princeton came back to tie the game at 48-48, but Minnesota scored the next seven points including five by Ben Johnson. His fast break layup with 23 seconds left gave Minnesota a 55-48 edge as the Gophers won the game, 57-53.
• Immediately following the game, a tournament trophy as well as tournament MVP will be crowned on the court. The Asheville Championship will announce its five-person All-Tournament Team and Roy Williams Most Valuable Player, all of which will be selected by attending media members.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
• Like Minnesota, Princeton is 2-0 on the young 2021-22 season with wins over South Carolina Friday and a 94-28 win over Rutgers-Camden, Nov. 9. It was Princeton's first collegiate action since 2019-20 as the Ivy League did not compete in games last season due to COVID-19.
• Princeton returns 11 from its 2019-20 roster including seniors Jaelin Llewellyn, Drew Friberg, Ethan Wright, Max Johns, Elijah Barnes, Max Johns, and Charlie Bagin.
• Through two games this year, Ryan Langborg averages a team-best 11.0 points per game, followed by Jaelin Llewellyn and Philip Byriel at 9.0.

GOPHERS VS. THE IVY LEAGUE
• The University of Minnesota is 19-1-1 all time against the Ivy League, dating back to 1902 when the Gophers faced Yale in a 32-23 win at home.
