MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota cross country teams found their way into the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's National Coaches' Poll once again this week. The men improved six spots from the last installment of the rankings, coming in at No. 23, while the women jumped into the top five for the first time this season at No. 5.

The Gophers are coming off an outstanding Big Ten Conference Championship performance from last weekend, where the women brought home both the individual title and team title for the first time in program history and the men secured their best Big Ten finish since 2015 in third.

The individual title went to Megan Hasz, who earned every inch of said title after an electric battle with Michigan's Ericka VanderLende. The duo led the field through the entire race, trading spots back-and-forth before Hasz eventually pulled ahead with just under 100m to go to secure the first Big Ten crown of her career in a time of 20:34.5. She was joined in the top-10 by Abby Kohut-Jackson and the 2020 Big Ten Champion Bethany Hasz, who finished seventh and ninth, respectively, to help give Minnesota it's first team title since 2008 and third in program history.

The men were led by an excellent showing from Alec Basten, who claimed a fifth place individual finish in the men's 5.2 mile race with a final time of 24:49.2. Newcomer Matt Wilkinson came in next for the Gophers in 15th, followed by a 20-21-22 finish from Owen Hoeft, Khalid Hussein and Jack Manderscheid to give them a third place finish with 83 points, only four points behind runner-up Michigan (79).

The women were once again ranked the top team in the Big Ten, leading No. 12 Michigan, No. 13 Wisconsin, No. 16 Michigan State, RV Illinois and RV Indiana. The men came in as the third of three ranked Big Ten schools, following No. 9 Wisconsin and No. 12 Michigan.

Regionally, both sides of the program held their spots from the previous installment. The women remained atop the Midwest region, leading Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Illinois and Northwestern, respectively. The men kept their fourth seed, coming in behind Oklahoma State, Iowa State and Tulsa, respectively, and leading Wichita State in fifth.

The Gophers will host their final home event of the season, Rocky's Run, this Sunday, November 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Les Bolstad Golf Course. The event will feature a multi-gender, six-kilometer race following the same course as Jack's Twilight Run earlier in the season, and will be open to public registration with all proceeds going to a scholarship fund in the name of the meet's namesake, Rochelle "Rocky" Racette. Those wanting to register to compete in Sunday's meet can do so through the link at the top of the page.
