The University of Minnesota was ranked No. 20 in the first installment of the College Football Playoff rankings released on Tuesday evening.
Minnesota was one of six Big Ten teams ranked and was fourth in the conference behind No. 3. Michigan State, No. 5 Ohio State and No. 7 Michigan.
The 6-2 Gophers lead the Big Ten West Division with a 4-1 mark in conference play and return action at 11 a.m. on Saturday against Illinois at Huntington Bank Stadium.
Minnesota was last ranked in the College Football Playoff rankings in 2019, when it was ranked as high as No. 8.
