The Gophers' seniors lit the lamp five times in the team's 10th straight win.
Minneapolis, Minn. -- The No. 3 Golden Gopher women's hockey team defeated the Huskies 5-1 to win the 2021 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women's Face-Off Classic on Saturday evening at Ridder Arena.
Minnesota (11-3-0) completed the sweep over St. Cloud State (4-7-1) with a 5-1 victory on Saturday at Ridder Arena. All five Maroon and Gold goals came from the Gophers' senior class. Emily Brown, Gracie Ostertag, Abigail Boreen, Emily Oden, and Crystalyn Hengler all scored for Minnesota. The 'U' continued their fast start trend on Saturday. The first period tally from Emily Brown marked the seventh straight game, and 12th game this season, that the Gophers have scored first in. Minnesota takes home the Hall of Fame Game Trophy for the second time in three seasons after winning the event in 2019. The Gophers' penalty kill unit was perfect, killing all eight minor penalties called against the Maroon and Gold. Catie Skaja led the way with three assists, while Taylor Heise added two helpers of her own to finish the series with a team-high five points. The Gophers outshot the Huskies 37-21 in Saturday's contest.
Skyler Vetter got the start for the Maroon and Gold and earned her third career win. The freshman stopped 20 of 21 shots to extend her record to 3-1-0. St. Cloud's Ahola stopped 32 of 37 shots in the loss.
Quotable
"We played pretty well here tonight," said head coach Brad Frost. "Skylar Vetter was really good in net. In the second period we got into some penalty trouble, but had some really good kills. Anytime you can get six points against a good opponent, it's a great weekend. It's fun to win and we're excited to head out to Nashville next week."

The Gophers defeated the Huskies for the 19th straight time. Taylor Heise recorded her team-leading ninth multi-point game this season. Gracie Ostertag recorded two goals in a series for the second time this season. The senior came into the season with one career goal.
