Reedy will be the 117th Gopher Hockey product to play in the NHL.
MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher Hockey will celebrate its NCAA-record 117th NHL player as 'U' alum Scott Reedy is projected to make his debut with the San Jose Sharks tonight.
Reedy and the Sharks host the Carolina Hurricanes at the SAP Center at San Jose at 9:30 p.m. CT.
Reedy is the 22nd University of Minnesota product to play in the NHL this year and the second to make his NHL debut following Tommy Novak's debut with the Nashville Predators. The forward is the second member of last year's Big Ten tournament championship squad to play in the NHL along with Sampo Ranta of the Colorado Avalanche.
A four-year letter winner for the Maroon & Gold, Reedy skated in 132 career games with 77 points (40 goals, 37 assists). As a senior in 2020-21, he was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection while tallying career highs for points (28) and assists (11). The forward tied for the NCAA lead with six game-winning goals while Minnesota was 11-0-0 when he found the net. Reedy tied the school record with five assists against Arizona State on Jan. 21, 2021.
A finalist for the 2021 Senior Class Award, Reedy was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree – earning the award every year he was eligible.
The Prior Lake, Minn., native made his professional debut with San Jose Barracuda in the AHL following the conclusion of his collegiate career last season. He has 20 points (13 goals, seven assists) in 29 career AHL regular-season games along with one assist in four playoff games. This year, Reedy has 12 points (eight goals, four assists) in 12 AHL games – leading the Barracuda in points and goals.
Reedy was selected in the fourth round (102nd overall) by the Sharks in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
