Knies Named B1G Second Star of the Week

Knies is tied for first in goal scoring among NCAA freshmen.
MINNEAPOLIS – A five-point weekend by Matthew Knies has netted the Gopher men's hockey freshman Big Ten Second Star of the Week honors, the conference announced on Tuesday morning.
A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Knies recorded multi-point performances in both of Minnesota's contests this weekend – notching a career-high three points (one goal, two assists) on Friday and another two points (one goal, one assist) on Saturday. The Toronto Maple Leafs prospect is currently tied for the NCAA goal scoring lead among freshmen with seven goals in addition to being tied for the team goal scoring lead.
Knies has tallied a goal in three-straight games and four of the last five contests while he's also currently riding a five-game point streak with nine points (four goals, five assists) over that stretch. He has 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 14 games this season as a college hockey newcomer.
