The Gophers travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take on Mercyhurst on Friday, and either Boston College or Colgate on Saturday, in the 2021 Shmashville Showcase.

MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 3/3 Golden Gopher women's hockey team travels to Nashville, Tenn. to take part in the Smashville Showcase. The Gophers will face Mercyhurst on Friday before taking on Boston College or Colgate on Saturday, depending on Friday's results
 
Last Time Out: Gophers Sweep Huskies, Win Hall of Fame Game Trophy
The Gophers (11-3-0) picked up their fifth straight series sweep and third conference sweep of the season. No. 3/3 Minnesota defeated St. Cloud State 6-2 on Friday at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Taylor Heise (2g-1a) and Olivia Knowles (1g-2a), who tied a career high, each notched three points in the win. Makayla Pahl got the start for the Maroon and Gold and earned her fifth win of the season to improve her record to 5-0-0. On Saturday, the Gophers won by a score of 5-1 in the 2021 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum Women's Face-Off Classic. The Hall of Fame Game Trophy went home with the Maroon and Gold for the second time in three seasons. Catie Skaja (3a) and Taylor Heise (2a) each notched multiple assists. All five goals scored by the Gophers came from the senior class. Freshman Skylar Vetter earned her third career win after stopping 20 of 21 Husky shots. Taylor Heise (2g-3a), Emily Oden (1g-3a), Catie Skaja (4a), Abigail Boreen (2g-1a), Peyton Hemp (3a), Olivia Knowles (1g-2a), Gracie Ostertag (2g), Amy Potomak (2a), and Audrey Wethington (1g-1a) all finished with multi-point weekends.

Scouting Mercyhurst
The Mercyhurst Lakers (11-4-2) currently sit at third in the CHA with a conference record of 3-1-0. The Lakers are coming off a road series sweep over RIT in which they outscored the Tigers 9-2. Mercyhurst is lead in scoring by freshman Vanessa Upson (11g-9a). Graduate student Kristy Pidgeon (7g-8a) and sophomore Sara Boucher (6g-9a) are both tied for second in points. Minnesota is 10-1-0 all-time against the Lakers.

Smashville Showcase 
On Friday, Boston College and No. 8/8 Colgate will kick off the Smashville Showcase tournament at 1:00 p.m. CST. The contest between the Gophers and the Lakers will follow and is slated for 4:30 p.m. CST. The winners of each semifinal will face-off in the championship game at 4:30 p.m. The losing team in each semifinal will play at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. In 2019, the Gophers earned a win over Harvard and a tie with Boston College in their two-game slate at the Ford Ice Center.

10 in a Row 
With their fifth consecutive sweep, the 'U' has compiled their first ten game winning streak since the 2018-19 season. Series sweeps over Minnesota State, Colgate, Bemidji State, RIT, and St. Cloud State make up the month-long winning streak.

Scoring Milestones on the Horizon 
Senior Taylor Heise is Minnesota's active career scoring leader with 120 career points (49g-71a) in 109 career games. She is one goal away from 50 career goals. Redshirt senior Amy Potomak (39g-46a) is closing in on 90 career points and 40 career goals. Fifth-year Emily Brown (18g-58a) and senior Emily Oden (24g-53a) are approaching 80 career points. Fifth-year Olivia Knowles (15g-50a) is nearing 70 career points. Senior Abigail Boreen (22g-25a) is in reach of 50 career points.
 
25th Season
The 2021-22 season marks the 25th season of Gopher women's hockey. To celebrate the first quarter-century of Gopher women's hockey, Minnesota will wear special '25 seasons' patches on their jerseys among other celebrations throughout the season.

Quest for Eighth National Title Continues
Minnesota has won seven national championships (2000, 2004, 2005, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016) and looks for a historic eighth title national crown in 2021-22.
