Gophers Announce 2022 Softball Schedule

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota softball team has announced its 2022 schedule, playing the early weeks of the season across various tournaments across the country before returning to college campuses the weekend of March 25.
 
Minnesota's schedule, one of the toughest in the nation, includes matchups with 12 different teams that made the 2021 NCAA Tournament and three teams that made the 2021 Women's College World Series. Seven teams on Minnesota's 2022 schedule were ranked inside the top 25 of the final 2021 USA Today/NFCA Coaches' Poll. 
 
Minnesota's 2022 campaign will begin Feb. 11, at the UCF Tournament in Orlando, Fla. The Golden Gophers will play in the three-day tournament against opponents such as Georgia, UCF, Longwood and Fresno State.
 
The following week the Maroon and Gold will travel to Tempe, Ariz., for a tournament hosted by Arizona State from Feb. 17-20. In Tempe the Gophers will take on teams such as Northern Colorado, UTEP, Portland State, Illinois State, California and the hosts, Arizona State.
 
Just a week later the 49ers of UNC – Charlotte will host the Gophers from Feb. 25-27. The Gophers will play Northern Iowa, Wichita State and the hosts, UNC – Charlotte while down in Charlotte, N.C.
 
The final two non-conference tournaments the Golden Gophers will take part in will be in Big 12 country. The Gophers will play in the OSU-Tulsa Invitational from March 5-6, and then will head to the University of Texas Tournament from March 11-13. Teams in those two tournaments include DePaul, Tulsa, Stanford, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Nicholls, Texas and Drake.
 
Big Ten conference play begins on March 25 when the Golden Gophers travel to Piscataway, N.J., to take on Rutgers. Minnesota will play host to Illinois to begin April before hosting a mid-week doubleheader on April 6 against the University of South Dakota.
 
After a pair of Big Ten road trips to Iowa and Nebraska the Gophers will host the Badgers for the annual Border Battle on April 20 for a doubleheader before hosting the University of Maryland in a three-game series and the University of St. Thomas. Minnesota will wrap up the last two weeks of the regular season with a road trip to Michigan on April 29-May 1, before ending the season at home in a series against Northwestern from May 5-8.
