Heise, Hemp Earn WCHA Monthly Honors

Senior Taylor Heise picks up her first conference monthly honor, while freshman Peyton Hemp is named the conference's best freshman for second straight month.
MINNEAPOLIS – Senior forward Taylor Heise and freshman forward Peyton Hemp were both tabbed as November WCHA monthly award winners on Tuesday afternoon. Heise picked up her first career WCHA Forward of the Month award while Hemp notched her second straight WCHA Rookie of the Month honor.
Taylor Heise had an outstanding month, tallying 16 points (8g-8a) in 6 games. She recorded a multi-point game in five of six contests in the month. The Gophers' top-line center and assistant captain ranks third in the nation and first on the team with 30 points (13g-17a) over 16 games. The Lake City, Minn. native had a November to remember with her second career hat-trick, her 50th career goal, a team-best +16 rating, and a career high seven-point series. Heise leads the Maroon and Gold in points, goals, assists, shots, short-handed goals, and +/- rating. She becomes the fourth Gopher (Grace Zumwinkle 3x, Sarah Potomak 3x, Kelly Pannek) to earn the honor.
Peyton Hemp notched her second straight WCHA Rookie of the Month honor in her second month of collegiate hockey. She becomes the first Gopher to ever earn the honor twice in the same season. Hemp notched seven points (2g-5a) in six games including three multi-point efforts. The Andover, Minn. native ranks first in the nation in points per game by a freshman and third on the team with 18 points (5g-13a). She also ranks second on the team in +/- rating with a +16.
No. 5/5 Minnesota (12-4-0) travels to LaBahn Arena to battle the top-ranked Badgers (15-0-1) on Friday at 7:00 pm CST and on Saturday at 3:00 pm CST.
