STARTING FIVE
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team hits the road for the third time in 11 days when it competes at Michigan, Saturday, Dec. 11. The Gophers return to non-conference action Tuesday, Nov. 14 against Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, which will mark five games within a 14-day span.
• Gophers senior captain Eric Curry has scored 30 points in the past two games. Against Mississippi State, Curry tied a then career-high 12 points. He followed that performance with a career-high 18 against No. 19 Michigan State. He also established a career-best field goals (9) and attempts (14) last game. On the season, he averages 8.9 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game and nearly 29 minutes played. Curry, who started as a graduate assistant this year, decided to return for one more season to be a part of Coach Johnson's team this first year.
Jamison Battle recorded his 23rd straight double-figure scoring game Wednesday night dating back to last season at George Washington. He finished with 17 points, a team-high eight rebounds, and two blocked shots in 40 minutes. Battle scored 14 of his points in the second half Wednesday and averages a team-high 17.8 ppg.
• In the past two games, Minnesota has committed just seven turnovers against Mississippi State and Michigan State. The Gophers committed just four turnovers against the Bulldogs and followed with three against the Spartans Wednesday night. On the season, Minnesota has only committed 71 turnovers, which ranks fifth nationally and tied for first in the Big Ten.  
Jamison Battle is ranked sixth in Big Ten overall scoring. He averages 17.8 points per game, while Payton Willis ranks 11th in the league at 1764. Willis and Battle rank fifth and sixth within the Big Ten in three-point percentage (.417 & .344) and average 2.5 and 2.8 three-pointers respectively. With the Gophers playing a short bench, Minnesota also has four of its five starters in the top five of minutes played within the Big Ten. Battle leads the league averaging 38.5 minutes played. 

SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
• Michigan enters the Minnesota game with a 6-3 record and is 1-0 in Big Ten play. The Wolverines opened conference play Tuesday with a convincing 102-67 win at Nebraska. Michigan fell earlier this year to ranked teams Seton Hall, Arizona and North Carolina.
• Head coach Juwan Howard guided the Wolverines to a 23-5 record and a 14-3 Big Ten mark last season, helping Michigan claim a Big Ten regular-season title.
• Hunter Dickinson and freshman guard/forward Caleb Houstan earned two of the 10 spots on the 2021-22 Preseason All-Big Ten team. Dickinson, the 2021 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and All-Big Ten selection, leads the team with 14.6 points per game and 8.9 rebounds, while Houstan averages 10.4 ppg. Eli Brooks also holds 13.9 ppg in 34.4 average minutes. 

WHERE THEY RANK
• Minnesota ranks 16th nationally and second in the conference in three-point defense. The Gophers  have allowed just 168 attempts and 44 opponent threes through eight games and just 26.2 percent. 
• In addition, Minnesota ranks 20th nationally in fewest fouls (and first in the Big Ten) with 108
• The Gophers also rank first in the Big Ten in fewest turnovers and fifth nationally with 71. 

LAST GAME RECAP
• Minnesota fell 75-67 at home to No. 19 Michigan State Wednesday night. It was Minnesota's first loss of the season and now sit at 7-1. 
Eric Curry led the Gophers with a career-high 18 points, and Jamison Battle had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Gophers.
• It was Minnesota's first ranked oppenent of the season. The Gophers allowed 10 three-pointers in the game, the second time they have allowed  double-digit threes (10) this season. The first game against Princeton.

ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END
• Minnesota was one of the last 12 teams to go undefeated until the Michigan State loss. The last time Minnesota opened a season 7-0 was during the 2017-18 campaign when the Gophers defeated both UMass and Alabama during the Barclays Center Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y.
