STARTING FIVE
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team returns to Williams Arena and non-conference action Tuesday, Nov. 14 when  Texas A&M Corpus-Christi comes to town. The stretch marks the fifth game within a 14-day span. Minnesota is 3-1 during that time.Â
• Minnesota is coming off a road win at Michigan Saturday night. The win marked the first conference victory for head coach Ben Johnson and Minnesota's first Big Ten road victory since Feb. 23, 2020. It was also the first road win at Michigan since 2011. The Gophers have now won three-straight road wins this season, marking the first time in program history since 2017 when the Gophers won at Illinois (2/4/17), at Rutgers (2/11/17) and at Maryland (2/22/17). The last time Minnesota won its first three true road games of the season dates back to 2012-13 when Minnesota won at Florida State (11/27), at USC (12/8) and at Illinois (1/9). Johnson is also the sixth Minnesota head coach to win his first-ever Big Ten road game (MacMillen, Nordley, Cowles, Musselman and Pitino).Â
• Jamison Battle recorded his 24th straight double-figure scoring game Wednesday night dating back to last season at George Washington. Opening Big Ten play last week, Battle had 17 points and eight rebounds. Against Michigan, he added a season-high 27 points, including 21 in the second half.Â
• In the past three games, Minnesota has committed just 11 turnovers against Mississippi State, Michigan State and Michigan. The Gophers committed just four turnovers against the Bulldogs and followed with three against the Spartans. Minnesota only had four against the Wolverines as well. On the season, Minnesota has only committed 75 turnovers, which ranks sixth nationally and second in the Big Ten. Â
• Jamison Battle is ranked sixth in Big Ten overall scoring. He averages 18.8 points per game, while Payton Willis ranks 10th in the league at 16.4. Battle and Willis rank fourth and eighth within the Big Ten in three-point average at 2.6 and 2.4 three-pointers respectively. With the Gophers playing a short bench, Minnesota also has three of its five starters in the top five of minutes played within the Big Ten. Battle leads the league averaging 38.4 minutes played.Â
SCOUTING THE ISLANDERS
• Texas A&M Corpus Christi is off to its best start in program history as it enters the Minnesota game with a 9-1 record. After dropping an 86-65 contest to Texas A&M, the Islanders have gone on an eight-game win streak.Â
• Head coach Steve Lutz, a former Purdue assistant, is in his first year at the helm. He was hired in April of 2021 after four years with the Boilermakers as Purdue reached the NCAA Tournament each of those four years.Â
• Isaac Mushila leads the Islanders in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game. He spent last season at Western Texas where averaged 15.7 ppg. Myles Smith was named to the Southland Conference's Preseason First Team selection. He averages 9.3 ppg and has scored over 1,000 career points.Â
AGAINST SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE
• Minnesota is 7-0 all time against the Southland Conference. The last time Minnesota faced a Southland Conference team dates back to the last time the Gophers played Texas A&M Corpus Christi in 2013. In fact, that year the Gophers faced two in that same season. Minnesota defeated the Islanders on Dec. 28, 2013 in a 65-44 win. The Gophers also faced New Orleans that same year and won, 80-65, on Dec. 7, 2013.Â
• In Minnesota's last game against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Andre Hollins scored 18 points and Austin Hollins added 13 as Minnesota finished non-conference play with a 65-44 win.Â
