Earlier Thursday, the University of St. Thomas announced that former Minnesota assistant coach Matt Rachey was named head coach of the Tommies men's golf program in St. Paul, Minn. Rachey, who will be the program's first official head coach in St. Thomas' NCAA Division I-era, spent the last two seasons as the assistant coach of the Gophers.
"We are really excited for Matt to begin his career as head men's golf coach at St. Thomas," head coach Justin Smith said. "Matt has made such an incredilbe impact on our program and student-athletes in just two and a half years with us at Minnesota. We are sad to see him leave, but we all know the great job he will do with his new program. Thank you, Matt, for all you have done for Gopher golf."
