MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota women's soccer head coach Erin Chastain has announced the addition of transfer defender Gabbie Cesarone to the program's roster. Cesarone comes to the Gophers as a graduate transfer after playing her previous years at Washington University in St. Louis.

This past season Cesarone and her squad reached the NCAA Division III Third Round before ending their season on penalty kicks against UW-La Crosse on Nov. 20. Cesarone joins the Gophers as a seasoned student-athlete at the Division III level. She has played in 62 games and started in 61 and lost a season after the Division III women's soccer season in 2020 was cancelled.

This past season was Cesarone's best offensive season, scoring three goals, all during the postseason, and notching three assists for the Bears. She leaves the Division III level with seven career goals and four assists. She is a two-time First Team United Soccer Coaches All-American and a two-time Defensive Player of the Year in the UAA Conference. Cesarone anchored WashU's defense that allowed just eight goals on the season. WashU notched 10 team shutouts and did not allow a single multi-goal game.

Cesarone has been a winner at the Division III level, winning three-straight outright UAA titles. With Cesarone as the team's starting center back WashU had a record of 54-3-7 and allowed just 23 goals in 64 total games. In her prep career Cesarone attended St. Charles North High School in Illinois and played club with Eclipse Select.

As the daughter of Jeff and Jonalee Cesarone, Gabbie has four siblings. She has three older sisters in Olivia, Izzie and Maddie along with a younger brother Dominic. Gabbie's father Jeff played football at Western Kentucky University from 1984-87 and was eventually inducted in the WKU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005. While studying at the University of Minnesota, Cesarone intends to pursue a masters in Public Health.

Why Minnesota: "I chose the University of Minnesota because both the Public Health and women's soccer programs are top programs in the country, where I will be challenged day in and day out, on and off the field. It has always been a dream of mine to compete at the Big Ten level, and this was a major draw to the school."
