Minnesota set for Tri-Meet in Iowa City

The No. 12 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team travels to Iowa City, Iowa for a tri-meet against Iowa and Maryland. The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. CT and will be available on BTN +.
Minnesota was originally scheduled to travel to Michigan State, but the meet was postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests found within the Spartans' program.
This will be the third meeting between the Gophers and Hawkeyes this season. Minnesota defeated Iowa by a score of 197.025-196.450 in the season-opening meet on January 15. In last week's rematch on February 6, the Hawkeyes topped the Gophers 196.800-196.375.
Saturday will be the first meeting between the Gophers and Terrapins this season. Minnesota last saw Maryland during the 2020 season at the Big Five meet. The Gophers walked away with a second place finish and 196.650 team score. Maryland scored a 195.325 for fifth place.
Last Time Out
The No. 11 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team was defeated 196.800-196.375 on the road by No. 10 Iowa to sit at 2-2 overall and 1-2 in conference action this season.
The Gophers won or claimed a share of each event title. Maddie Quarles took home the honors on vault (9.950), Lexy Ramler won bars (9.950), Mary Korlin-Downs tied for first on beam (9.900) and Ona Loper shared the top spot on floor (9.950). Lexy Ramler won the all-around crown with a 39.575.
For the second week in a row, Ramler earned the top spot in the all-around (39.575). The senior earned top marks on bars (9.950), tied for second on vault (9.925), was fifth on beam (9.825) and tied for sixth on floor with a 9.875.
Loper followed closely behind Ramler, posting a 39.500 and placing second in the all-around. Loper tied for the floor title (9.950), took a share of second on vault (9.925), tied for third on bars (9.850) and placed eighth on beam (9.775).
Gophers in the Rankings
Minnesota comes in at No. 12 overall after being ranked No. 11 last week. The Maroon and Gold are ranked sixth on vault, 16th on beam, 16th on bars and 16th on floor.
Ramler continues to be nationally ranked in individual events. She is No. 2 in the nation in the all-around, No. 4(t) on bars, No. 6 on beam and No. 10 on vault. Closely behind is Loper, ranked on vault (4), floor (T-6) and the all-around (11). The powerful vault of Quarles has earned her a spot at No. 6 in the nation on the event.
B1G Weekly Honors
Ramler was named the Co-Gymnast of the Week by the Big Ten Conference in response to her outstanding performance at Iowa on Feb. 6. This is Ramler's second straight week with the honor and the 14th time in her career. She shares this week's title with Cassidy Rushlow of Penn State.
For the second week in a row, Ramler won the top spot in the all-around (39.575). The senior earned a season-best 9.950 for first on bars and was awarded a season-high 9.925 on vault, which was good for second. Ramler was fifth on beam (9.825) and tied for sixth on floor (9.875).
Ramler currently ranks No. 2 in the nation in the all-around, tied for No. 4 on bars, No. 6 on beam and No. 10 on vault.
This is the third Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award earned by a Gophers student-athlete. Ramler earned the title last week (2/1/21) and Ona Loper won the honor after the first week of the season (1/18/21).
Record Setting Gophers
In their first meet of the season, Minnesota posted their best opening meet team score with a 197.025. This beat the record set last year at Denver when the Gophers recorded 196.475 points.
Following the first week of competition, Minnesota earned a No. 4 national ranking which tied for the highest in program history.

Iowa is No. 9 in the Road to Nationals rankings with an average score of 195.531, currently has a No. 8 national ranking and leads the Big Ten on floor with a 49.350 average. Senior Clair Kaji is currently ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten and is eighth nationally on floor with an average of 9.906.
The Hawkeyes posted three season-high scores in the victory over No. 11 Minnesota en route to a score of 196.800. The score is tied for the fourth-best in school history and is the highest by the program since 2004.
Iowa has earned six Big Ten weekly honors through the first four weeks with Lauren Guerin, Clair Kaji, and Adeline Kenlin all being multiple award winners.
Scouting Maryland
Maryland is coming off a 194.950 team score in a loss to Penn State this past weekend. The Terps won first place on vault and floor where they remain nationally ranked at No. 21 and No. 11 respectively. Maryland had five gymnasts earn a total of seven podium finishes. The Terrapins also earned a season-best beam score of 48.900.
Senior Collea Burgess led all competitors on vault (9.850), sophomore Aleka Tsiknias placed third on bars (9.825), sophomore Reese McClure placed on beam (9.850) and senior Sabriyya Rouse took the crown on floor (9.875) at the meet. In the all-around, senior Audrey Barber took second place (38.650) followed by sophomore Emma Silberman in third (38.375).
