Gophers Take on No. 4 Nebraska This Weekend

HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
• Minnesota is coming off a pair of wins over a top-10 opponent in Penn State. The Golden Gophers earned a 3-1 win Saturday (29-27, 25-23, 23-25, 25-18) and a five set win Sunday (25-19, 16-25, 17-25, 25-15, 15-10). Sunday's match marked the third come-from-behind victory of the season for Minnesota.
• For the second straight week, Stephanie Samedy was named the Big Ten Player of the week. It marks third weekly honor this year, as she was also named National Player of the Week previously this season. Samedy averaged 4.67 kills per set and had 122 attempts in a pair of wins over No. 8 Penn State last weekend. She also added 27 digs, four blocks, two aces and two assists. On Saturday, Samedy produced her third-straight 20-plus kill performance when she had 23 kills, 60 attempts and 11 digs. On Sunday, she had 19 kills, added 16 digs and two blocks. With her back-to-back double doubles, it marked Samedy's 39th and 40th of her career.
• The Gophers produced 10 aces last Sunday against Penn State. It marked the third time Minnesota has added double-digit aces in a match. Rachel Kilkelly alone had six on the weekend, including five in the Penn State series finale.
• This weekend marks Minnesota's first visit to Lincoln, Neb., since the 2018 season. Minnesota won that Oct. 6 meeting in four sets. The Golden Gophers faced the Huskers just once last season as Nebraska came to Maturi Pavilion and won in five.
• Minnesota is one of seven Big Ten teams that have played all eight matches so far this season with the Gophers and Wisconsin going 8-0. Nebraska missed its second weekend against Northwestern due to COVID-19 concerns with the Wildcats.
• Stephanie Samedy currently ranks 13th among NCAA active leaders in career kills (1,323) and 30th in kills per set (3.6). Regan Pittman ranks ninth among NCAA active leaders in career hitting percentage (.360), sixth in blocks per set (1.16) and sixth in total blocks (428).

• The No. 4 Nebraska Cornhuskers enter the weekend with a 6-0 overall and Big Ten record. The Huskers opened with a pair of 3-0 wins against Indiana, but had their second weekend canceled against Northwestern. Nebraska has won the next four against Maryland and Rutgers.
• Lexi Sun leads the team with 76 kills and averages 3.80 kills per set. She also has a team-best 12 aces. Lauren Stivrins leads the team in hitting percentage (.518) and averages 1.15 blocks per set. Setter Nicklin Hames averages 11.35 assists per set, while she and Kenzie Knuckles lead the team with 66 digs.

• After a valiant comeback, Minnesota fell to Nebraska in five sets in the only meeting between the two teams, 22-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-11, 3-15.
