The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team garnered all three Big Ten weekly honors after tying the program's second-highest score ever on Saturday at Maturi Pavilion. Senior Lexy Ramler earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Week, redshirt senior Mary Korlin-Downs claimed Event Specialist of the Week and Mya Hooten took home her second straight Freshman of the Week honor.
For the fourth straight week, Ramler earned a first-place finish in the all-around. The senior scored a 39.700, the second highest in both her career and in program history. Ramler set a career-high 9.975 on vault, posted a 9.950 on bars, a 9.900 on floor and 9.875 on beam. She won both the vault and bars title. Ramler currently ranks in the top-10 in the nation in the all-around (No. 4), on vault (No. 4), bars (T-No. 4) and beam (No. 6). This is her third Gymnast of the Week honor of the season and 15th in her career.
Korlin-Downs claimed the beam title with a career-high 9.975 on the event. Her near-perfect routine earned a 10 from one judge. This is the first Event Specialist of the Week honor of Korlin-Downs' career. She is tied for 10th in the conference on beam.
Hooten's second Freshman of the Week award comes after she shared the event title on floor with a 9.925. She finished fourth on bars (9.850) and fifth on vault (9.875). Hooten is eighth in the conference on floor and 20th on vault.
Minnesota heads back on the road to compete at the Big Five meet in College Park, Md this weekend. The Maroon and Gold will face off against Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio State and Maryland on Friday, February 26th starting at 4:00 p.m. CT. The meet will be broadcast on BTN+.
