Gophers Travel to Big Five Meet in Maryland

The No. 8 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team heads on the road to College Park, Md. for the annual Big Five meet on Friday, Feb. 26. The Gophers will face off against No. 19 Illinois, No. 26 Maryland, No. 38 Nebraska and No. 21 Ohio State. The meet will begin at 4:00 p.m. CT and will be available to watch on BTN +.
Last Time Out
The No. 10 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team landed themselves in the record books with their team score of 197.625, tied for second highest in program history in their win over Rutgers (195.975). The Gophers outscored Rutgers on each event on their way to the win.
For the fourth straight week, Ramler earned a first-place finish in the all-around. The senior scored a 39.700, the second highest in her career and second in the Gophers record book. Ramler set a career-high 9.975 on vault, posted a 9.950 on bars, a 9.900 on floor and 9.875 on beam. Ona Loper came in second with a 39.550. She earned a 9.950 on vault, 9.775 on bars, 9.900 on beam and 9.925 on floor.
Sophomores Kate Grotenhuis (9.725) and Maya Albertin (9.700) both made their career debut at the Pav on vault. Minnesota's team score of 49.450 on the event tied for fourth best in program history. Ramler took the top spot on the event with a 9.975, a new career-record.
The Gophers claimed the top four spots on bars. Ramler was first on the event with a 9.950 and Hannah Willmarth was second after scoring a career-high 9.900. Tiarre Sales added a 9.875, good for third, and Hooten finished in fourth with a 9.850.
The Maroon and Gold posted a season-high 49.400 on beam. Korlin-Downs won the title with her career-high and near perfect 9.975, earning a 10 from one judge.
Minnesota continued to put up strong performances on floor, totaling 49.425. Hooten and Loper shared the event title with a pair of 9.925s.
Gophers in the Rankings
Minnesota comes in at No. 8 overall. The Maroon and Gold is ranked fourth on vault, 12th on bars and 14th on both beam and floor.
Ramler is ranked in the top-10 in the all-around (4), on vault (4), bars (T-4) and beam (6). Loper continues to be nationally ranked at No. 1 on vault, No. 5 on floor and No 18 in the all-around. Maddie Quarles ties for No. 7 in the country on vault.
Record Setting Gophers
In their first meet of the season, Minnesota posted their best opening meet team score with a 197.025. This beat the record set last year at Denver when the Gophers recorded 196.475 points.
The Gophers tied their second highest program team score of 197.625 on Saturday, Feb. 20 against Rutgers.
Following the first week of competition, Minnesota earned a No. 4 national ranking which tied for the highest in program history.

B1G Weekly Awards
The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team garnered all three Big Ten weekly honors after tying the program's second-highest score ever on Saturday at Maturi Pavilion. Senior Lexy Ramler earned Big Ten Gymnast of the Week, redshirt senior Mary Korlin-Downs claimed Event Specialist of the Week and Mya Hooten took home her second straight Freshman of the Week honor.
Ramler earned a first-place finish in the all-around. The senior scored a 39.700, the second highest in both her career and in program history. Ramler set a career-high 9.975 on vault, posted a 9.950 on bars, a 9.900 on floor and 9.875 on beam. She won both the vault and bars title. Korlin-Downs claimed the beam title with a career-high 9.975 on the event. Her near-perfect routine earned a 10 from one judge. This was the first Event Specialist of the Week honor of Korlin-Downs' career. Hooten's second Freshman of the Week award comes after she shared the event title on floor with a 9.925. She finished fourth on bars (9.850) and fifth on vault (9.875).

Scouting Illinois
Fighting Illini women's gymnastics put up a season best 196.650 but it was not enough to overcome Michigan last weekend. Illinois put up a season best 48.975 on vault with sophomores Mia Townes and Arayah Simons scoring 9.850 on the event. Townes matched her career high with a 9.850. Illinois is currently ranked No. 19 in the nation overall, No. 12 on floor, No. 13 on beam, No. 24 on bars and No. 35 on vault.
Scouting Maryland
In their last time out, the Terrapins tallied a new season-best score of 196.275 at the Penn State Tri Meet last weekend. The GymTerps earned season-high scores on vault (49.225), bars (49.025) and beam (49.000). Sophomore Emma Silberman earned first place in the all-around competition with a 39.325. Maryland is currently ranked No. 26 in the nation overall, No. 18 on vault and No. 20 on floor.
Scouting Nebraska
Nebraska fell to Iowa this past weekend. Senior Anika Dujakovich tied her career-high on 9.95 on vault, which won her the event title, while fellow senior Kynsee Roby posted a 9.85 on bars, winning her the event title. Nebraska is currently ranked No. 38 in the nation overall, No. 27 on vault, No. 32 on beam, No. 33 on bars and No. 48 on floor.
Scouting Ohio State
Ohio State won its third meet in a row with a season-best 196.400 last Sunday in a tri-meet with Maryland and Penn State. As a team, the Buckeyes set season highs on vault (49.175) and beam (49.225). Senior Jenna Swartzentruber garnered a share of the bars title with a score of 9.900 while sophomore Ella Hodges claimed the top spot on beam. Ohio State is currently ranked No. 21 in the nation overall, No. 16 on beam, No. 21 on vault, No. 28 on bars and No. 35 on floor.
