No. 2 Minnesota skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with No. 1 Wisconsin before earning an extra WCHA point with a 1-0 shootout win.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team secured a 1-0 shootout win behind a goal from Taylor Wente after skating to a 2-2 overtime tie with No. 1 Wisconsin Saturday evening at Ridder Arena as the Border Battle required overtime for the second-straight game.

Minnesota (9-5-1, 9-5-1/0-1 WCHA) rallied to tie the game at 2-2 after Wisconsin (9-2-1, 9-2-1/1-1 WCHA) took a 2-0 lead.Ā Abigail Boreen got the Gophers on the board in the second period before Grace Zumwinkle scored the game-tying goal with 5:44 remaining in regulation.Ā

The teams played a scoreless three-on-three overtime before facing off in a shootout to decide the weekend's final point in the WCHA standings. Wente scored on the Gophers' first attempt and Makayla Pahl was perfect against three Badger shooters to secure the 1-0 shootout win for the Maroon & Gold.

Pahl recorded 21 saves on 23 shots faced, and Minnesota had a 29-23 advantage in shots on goal for the game. Kennedy Blair made 27 saves for the visiting team, and the Badgers received goals from Sophie Shirley and Maddi Wheeler.

"I'm really excited about how our team played again here tonight," head coach Brad Frost said. "It wasn't easy, coming back after a tough loss yesterday there and to have our team come out the way we did and defend the way we did, and then find a way to come back after being down in the third was just great.Ā Overall, it was a great shootout win, and we're really happy with it. We're really excited for our group to be rewarded with their efforts here tonight."
