3/11/2021 7:46:00 AM | Tennis
The University of Minnesota women's tennis team (2-5) heads back on the road after a very successful weekend sweep at Baseline Tennis Center. The team is scheduled to face Purdue on Friday, Mar. 12 at 12:00pm and Indiana on Sunday, Mar. 14 at 10:30am.
Previous Match
Last weekend, the Gophers swept singles play in both matches on their way to a near-perfect weekend. Minnesota defeated Maryland 7-0 and Rutgers 6-1 for their first two victories of the year.
The Gophers got results at all six singles positions. Freshman Rachel Hanford continued her success at the top of the lineup with a victory over another ranked opponent. Dalila Said, River Hart and Zeyneb Sarioglan all picked up their first two victories of the season.
The Competition
Purdue (2-5) is coming off their second victory of the season last Sunday against Indiana. The Boilermakers have battled through a tough schedule to this point. Four out of seven of their matches have been against ranked or receiving votes opponents. The last time these two teams met, Minnesota defeated Purdue at Baseline 6-1 in 2017. Minnesota is 4-6 against the Boilermakers in the last ten matchups.
Indiana (1-6) is in the midst of a three game losing streak. Like Purdue, Indiana has also battled four ranked or receiving votes opponents through seven games. Minnesota is 4-6 against the Hoosiers in the last ten matchups.
