The University of Minnesota softball team rallied to win its sixth-straight game in a 3-2 win over Michigan State. With the win, the Golden Gophers are now 9-3 overall and in Big Ten play. Michigan State dropped to 3-9 in league action. The game today also marked the end of games being played in Leesburg, Fla., at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.

Freshman Sara Kinch delivered an RBI double to score the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning. She went 1-3 on the day, while Emily Hansen went 1-2 with a double and a walk. Katelyn Kemmetmueller went 1-2 and scored a run, while Natalie DenHartog and Sydney Strelow each had an RBI.

Autumn Pease improved to 5-1 on the season when she pitched six innings, had seven strikeouts, allowed two runs, both of which were unearned. Amber Fiser closed out the game in the seventh and picked up her second save of the year.

After Michigan State scored two quick runs in the top of the first, the two teams went scoreless until the fourth inning. Kemmetmueller began the inning with a walk and advanced to second off a wild pitch and later stole third. DenHartog delivered a groundout RBI, which scored Kemmetmueller to cut the Spartan lead to one.

With two outs in the sixth, Minnesota rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Hansen doubled down the right field line as Chloe Evans pinch ran for her. After DenHartog was intentionally walked, Evans scored on a fielding error to tie the game. Kinch stepped up to the plate and delivered a double to left field to score DenHartog. Fiser came into the game in the seventh and faced just three batters, all of which grounded out for the Gopher win.

Minnesota is off next week, but will be back in action March 26-28 when it travels to Champaign, Ill., to compete against Illinois. March 25 will feature a 5 p.m. game, while March 27 will have a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The Gophers will close out the series on March 28 at noon.
