Gophers Win Big Ten Title Off Record Breaking Team Score; Ramler Named Gymnast of the Year

For the first time since 2006, the University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team captured the Big Ten tournament title as No. 7 Minnesota won first place at the Big Ten Championship on Saturday night held at Maturi Pavilion in Minneapolis. The Golden Gophers tallied a program-record 197.750 to win their sixth conference championship and snap Michigan's streak of six consecutive titles.Â
Michigan finished second this year with 197.425 points, with Illinois and Iowa tying for third at 196.625. Rutgers placed fifth after posting the highest score during Saturday's afternoon session (195.675), followed by Maryland (195.625), Penn State (195.475), Ohio State (195.225) and Nebraska (195.175).

Overall, Minnesota led the way with four individual event champions. Ramler won the all-around (39.725), bars (9.950) and beam title (9.975), while Loper won the floor title (9.950).Â
With a team score of 197.750, the Gophers broke the program record previously set at 197.000 in 2004.Â
Senior Lexy Ramler was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year immediately following the meet, her third consecutive year winning the award. Ramler earned the nomination in the midst of her stellar senior campaign. She has scored a perfect 10 on both vault and beam, and has also set a new program record in the all-around with a 39.850. Ramler has won 24 event titles so far this season and has been named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week five times. She is currently tied for No. 1 in the nation on beam, No. 2 on bars, tied for No. 4 on vault, No. 23 on floor and No. 2 overall in the all-around. Ramler is also a finalist for the AAI Award, recognizing the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country.

Ramler earned the 2021 Big Ten all-around title with a score of 39.725 points, also coming in first on bars and beam. Fellow senior Loper placed second in the all-around (39.575) and took home the crown on floor.Â

Vault
The Gophers started the night off strong on vault, scoring 49.350 as a team. The trio of Mya Hooten, Ramler and Quarles each received a 9.900 for sixth. Loper was just behind, posting a 9.850. Rounding out the scoring lineup was sophomore Kate Grotenhuis with a career-high 9.800.Â
Bars
Minnesota continued their impressive night on the bars rotation and posted a 49.450 team score. Ramler was the top finisher for the Gophers, scoring a 9.950 and earning a 10 from one judge. She won the individual title in the event. Loper followed with a 9.925 and Tiarre Sales added a 9.900. Hooten finished with a 9.850 and senior Hannah Willmarth contributed a 9.825.
Beam
The best rotation of the night for the Gophers was on beam. Ramler had a near-perfect 9.975, Korlin-Downs boasted an impressive 9.950 and Sales recorded a 9.900. The pair of Loper and Montgomery closed it out with two 9.850s. As a team, the Maroon and Gold put up a 49.525.
Floor
The Gophers claimed the overall title after their final performance of the night on floor. Loper shared a portion of the B1G floor title by posting a 9.950. Hooten and Ramler came in sixth with 9.900s, followed by Emily Koch with a 9.850. Mallory LeNeave wrapped the Maroon and Gold's scoring with her 9.825. Minnesota's night on floor earned a 49.425.
