MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota soccer team fell to No. 21 Rutgers on the road in a closely-contested matchup on Sunday, 1-0.

Entering halftime, the game was knotted at 0-0 as neither team was able to create many scoring chances. The Gophers held even with Rutgers at one shot apiece after the first 45 minutes, with the Scarlet Knights owning the first half's lone shot on goal. Meanwhile, Minnesota jumped out to a 3-2 advantage in corners in the first half.

Rutgers wasted no time in taking the lead in the second half, however, as Julianne Leskauskas found the back of the net in the 47th minute to put the Scarlet Knights up, 1-0.

Minnesota battled throughout the game's remaining minutes, registering six shots including two shots on goal in the second half. In the end, the Gophers were unable to finish any of their chances as the matchup concluded in a 1-0 score.

Overall, Minnesota finished with an edge in shots (7-2) and corners (6-2), while holding even with Rutgers with two shots on goal.

Abi Frandsen paced all Gophers with three shots, while Makenzie Langdok registered two of her own. Both Frandsen and Langdok put one shot on target in the game.

Sophia Boman, Katie Duong, Athena Kuehn and Megan Plaschko each started and played all 90 minutes for Minnesota.

As a result of Sunday's loss, Minnesota is now 3-3-2 on the season.

Quotable
