Minnesota (5-3-2) wraps up the spring 2021 regular season this upcoming Saturday, as the Gophers are set to host Wisconsin (6-3-1) at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

SEASON RECAP
Entering the season finale, Minnesota holds a 5-3-2 record on the season and is tied with Michigan for sixth place in the Big Ten standings with 17 points. The Gophers enjoyed their most successful stretch of the campaign from March 1 to March 14, when the team went 3-0-1 over four games, securing victories against Michigan State (1-0), Northwestern (2-1, OT) and Iowa (1-0). Overall, Minnesota remains undefeated at home this season with a 3-0-2 record and have won both of their two contests at ELR this year.

LAST TIME OUT
After dropping back-to-back games against top-25 opponents (at No. 11 Penn State, at No. 21 Rutgers), the Maroon & Gold rallied to produce a 2-0 record last week. Hosting Purdue on March 25, the Gophers used a game-winning goal by Sophia Boman in the 82nd minute to claim a 1-0 victory. Three days later, Minnesota took down Maryland, 1-0, at home thanks to a goal off the left foot of McKenna Buisman in the second minute of play. Collectively across the two wins, Minnesota outshot their opponents by a 31-15 margin.

SERIES HISTORY
In the history of the two programs, Minnesota and Wisconsin have faced off 32 times with the Badgers holding a 12-19-1 advantage in the all-time series. Most recently, Wisconsin claimed a 1-0 victory over Minnesota in Madison during the 2019 season. The Gophers' most recent win in the series came back in 2013, when the Maroon & Gold used a Haley Halverson game-winner in the 108th minute to steal a 1-0 double-overtime victory.

SCOUTING THE BADGERS
Coming into the final game of the season, Wisconsin sports a 6-3-1 record and sits in third place in the Big Ten standings. Through 10 games, the Badgers' eight goals rank 10th in the conference while their six goals allowed represent the fewest in the Big Ten. Wisconsin is the only team in the conference with more shutouts (seven) than Minnesota (six) this season, so this weekend's tilt figures to be a defensive battle. That said, Wisconsin ranks just 13th in the Big Ten in shots (76), while Minnesota boasts the second-most in the conference in that department (149). Wisconsin heads into Saturday having won their two most-recent games against Maryland (2-0) and Rutgers (1-0).

WEEKLY B1G HONORS
Just this past week, Delaney Stekr and Sophia Boman each garnered Big Ten weekly awards, as the former received Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors while the latter was named Co-Freshman of the Week. Both Gophers played all 180 minutes in Minnesota's pair of 1-0 shutout victories over Purdue and Maryland, connecting for the game-winning goal scored by Boman in the 82nd minute against the former. So far this season, four different Gophers have combined to haul in five total weekly Big Ten honors.

Sophia Boman – Co-Freshman of the Week (March 30)
Delaney Stekr – Defensive Player of the Week (March 30)
Sophia Boman – Freshman of the Week (March 16)
Katie Koker – Defensive Player of the Week (March 9)
Megan Plaschko – Goalkeeper of the Week (March 9)

FAREWELL, ELR
Unless Minnesota is selected to host a regional Big Ten Tournament game, Saturday's contest will potentially represent the final game at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium for five Gopher seniors: Arianna Del Moral, Athena Kuehn, Makenzie Langdok, Maddie Nielsen and Celina Nummerdor.

TEAM LEADERS
Through the first 10 games of the season, Boman and Sadie Harper are tied for the team lead with two goals, while Buisman and Koker have scored one goal apiece as well. Katie Duong leads the squad with three assists. Meanwhile, Boman paces the team with five points and 29 shots. Buisman follows closely behind with 20 shots of her own.

STRONG ON D
Minnesota's six shutouts this season rank second in the Big Ten, trailing only Wisconsin (seven). The Gophers have allowed just seven goals all season, which is tied for second in the Big Ten. The team has surrendered a mere 53 shots all year long, while producing 149 shots of their own. Dating back to last season, Minnesota has registered shutouts in seven of their last 12 games.

AT THE TOP OF THE B1G
Minnesota currently ranks at or near the top of the Big Ten in a variety of categories: corner kicks (first; 67), shots (second; 149), shutouts (second; six), fewest goals allowed (tied second; seven), goals allowed on average (tied second; 0.70), shots per game (third; 14.90) and shots on goal (fifth; 57).

GOING THE DISTANCE
Three Gophers have played all 857 minutes for Minnesota so far this season: Boman, Duong and Kuehn.

GOLAN BECOMES LONGEST-TENURED GOPHER HEAD SOCCER COACH
With the 2020-21 campaign officially underway, head coach Stefanie Golan has now been at the helm of the program longer than any head coach in program history. Now in her ninth season with the Gophers, Golan has compiled a 91-61-23 (.587) record, won one B1G Regular Season Championship and two B1G Tournament Championships. Mikki Denney Wright (2004-11) is the only other Minnesota soccer coach to lead the program for at least eight seasons.

CAPTAINING THE SHIP
Seniors Kuehn, Langdok and Nummerdor serve as captains for Minnesota this season. These three Gophers lead a six-player, team-elected Leadership Group that also consists of juniors Alana Dressely and Stekr, as well as sophomore Duong.

GLOBE TROTTERS
The 24 Gophers that make up the 2021 roster hail from 12 different states. The biggest constituency comes from Minnesota, as 10 current players are from The Land of 10,000 Lakes.

UP NEXT
Saturday's matchup with Wisconsin marks the conclusion of the spring 2021 regular season. Following the game, Minnesota will await their fate regarding the Big Ten Tournament, which is scheduled to begin from April 8-11 in the form of regional qualifying play.
