Minnesota Set to Host Nebraska on Senior Night

The No. 5 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team returns home to Maturi Pavilion for the final home meet of the regular season on Friday, March 5 against Nebraska in a non-conference duel. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm and will be available to watch on BTN +. 

The Gophers will honor their five seniors immediately after the meet: Mary Korlin-Downs, Ona Loper, Lexi Montgomery, Lexy Ramler and Hannah Willmarth. Minnesota will also be holding their annual Always Dreaming Meet in honor of Frank Kara and cancer awareness. 

Last Time Out
The No. 8 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team took first place with an overall team score of 197.375 at the Big Five meet against No. 19 Illinois (196.600), No. 26 Maryland (195.725), No. 21 Ohio State (195.275) and No. 38 Nebraska (195.200).

The Gophers set a new program record on bars, scoring a 49.575 team score on the event to eclipse the previous record of 49.525 set on February 15, 2019. 

Minnesota swept all four events in the five-team competition. The Maroon and Gold recorded a 49.575 on bars, 49.325 on beam, 49.250 on floor and 49.225 on vault. 

Lexy Ramler broke her own Gophers all-around record with a 39.850.  Her previous record was 39.725, also set on February 15, 2019. The new program-best score was highlighted by her first career perfect 10 on vault. Ramler scored a 9.925 or higher on each event and won every event title on the night.

Loper posted a 39.525 to place second in the all-around. The Bluffton, S.C. native recorded a 9.900 on floor, 9.900 on bars, 9.875 on vault and 9.850 on beam.

Gophers in the Rankings
Minnesota comes in at No. 5 overall after being ranked No. 8 last week. The Maroon and Gold is ranked fourth on vault, fourth on bars and seventh on beam and eight on floor. 

Ramler is ranked in the top-20 in the all-around (2), on vault (2), bars (2), beam (2) and floor (T-17). Loper continues to be nationally ranked at No. 1 on vault, No. 4 on floor and No.7 in the all-around. Maddie Quarles ties for No. 8 in the country on vault, Mya Hooten ties for No. 8 on floor and Mary Korlin-Downs is tied for 15th on beam. 

Record Setting Gophers
In their first meet of the season, Minnesota posted their best opening meet team score with a 197.025. This beat the record set last year at Denver when the Gophers recorded 196.475 points.

The Gophers tied their second highest program team score of 197.625 on Saturday, Feb. 20 against Rutgers. 

Following the first week of competition, Minnesota earned a No. 4 national ranking which tied for the highest in program history.

At the Big Five Meet, the Gophers set a new program record on bars, scoring a 49.575 team score on the event to eclipse the previous record of 49.525 set on February 15, 2019.

B1G Weekly Awards
Lexy Ramler was awarded her second straight Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award after a record setting performance at the Big Five Meet. This is the fourth B1G Gymnast of the Week honor of the season and 16th in her career. 

Ramler stole the show at the Big Five as she broke her own Gophers all-around record with a 39.850. Her previous record was 39.725, set on February 15, 2019. Ramler's all-around title was her fifth straight this season. 

The St. Michael, Minn. native's new program-best score was highlighted by her first career perfect 10 on vault.  Ramler swept the event titles with scores of 10.000 on vault, 9.975 on bars, 9.950 on beam and 9.925 on floor.

Scouting Nebraska
The Nebraska women's gymnastics team posted a team score of 195.200 and placed fifth at the Big Five Meet. Freshman Kinsey Davis posted a career-high score of 9.95 on uneven bars while Sophomore Kylie Piringer tied her career-high on floor exercise with a score of 9.900. Junior Kaitlyn Higgins posted a career-high score of 9.900 on balance beam.
