The University of Minnesota women's tennis team (0-5) returns home to Baseline Tennis Center for their second weekend home stand of the season. The team is scheduled to face Maryland on Friday, Mar. 5 at 3:00pm and Rutgers on Sunday, Mar. 7 at 11:00am.
Previous Match
Last weekend, the Gophers finished off their first weekend road trip of the season against #7 Northwestern and Illinois. Minnesota was defeated in both matches.
Freshman Rachel Hanford had an exceptional weekend in the #1 singles position. She won both of her singles matches including a ranked victory over #107 Asuka Kawai of Illinois.
The Competition
Maryland (0-4) has not competed since Feb. 21 due to a postponement of their scheduled match against Rutgers. The Terrapins currently have one ranked singles player (Ayana Akli, No. 89). The last time these two teams met, Minnesota defeated Maryland In College Park 6-1 in 2019. Minnesota is 2-3 against the Terrapins since they joined the Big Ten in 2014.
Rutgers (0-4), like Maryland, also has not competed since Feb. 21 after a postponement of their scheduled match against the Terrapins. The Scarlet Knights return to the road for the first time since Big Ten opening weekend. Minnesota has not lost (5-0) to Rutgers since they joined the Big Ten in 2014.
