The University of Minnesota women are headed to the 2020-21 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 11 University of Minnesota women's cross country team has been selected for the 2020-21 NCAA Cross Country Championships, the NCAA announced during its selection show on Sunday.

The Gopher women return to the national championship for the 15th time in the last 16 years after finishing 28th in 2019.

The 2020-21 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Monday, March 15 in Stillwater, Okla. The women's 6K race will begin at 11:50 a.m. CT with the men's 10K scheduled for 12:40 p.m. CT. Live coverage of the championships will be provided by ESPNU.

In Minnesota's lone cross country competition this year, the Gophers finished second at the Big Ten Women's Cross Country Championships in late January led by Bethany Hasz claiming the individual crown. B. Hasz clocked the second fastest time ever by a Gopher at the B1G Championships with a 6K PR of 20:13.2 to become the second Gopher in program history to win a B1G women's cross country title, joining Eileen Donaghy, who won in 1987.

Abby Kohut-Jackson joined B. Hasz among the top-10 finishers, posting a career-best eighth-place showing for All-Big Ten Second Team honors in 20:45.2. Jaycie Thomsen was Minnesota's third runner in 17th place overall (21:03.3), followed by Anastasia Korzenowski in 20th (21:11.6) and Megan Hasz in 30th (21:26.2). The Gophers scored 76 points behind B1G team champion Michigan State with 48 points, marking the second time the Gophers have finished as B1G runner-up in the past four seasons.

With the elimination of the 2020 NCAA regional championships, the committee created a new selection process for teams and individuals advancing directly to the national championships.

Minnesota joins Alabama, Arkansas, Boise State, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Duke, Florida State, Furman, Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Liberty, Michigan, Michigan State, NC State, New Mexico, North Carolina, Northern Arizona, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Portland, San Francisco, Stanford, Tulsa, Washington, and West Virginia to make up this year's 31 team qualifiers for the NCAA women's cross country meet.

The Gopher women have made 25 team appearances at the NCAA Championship since 1974. The program's highest team finish came in 2005 when the Gophers placed ninth. All-Americans Ladia Albertson-Junkans and Emily Brown led Minnesota's efforts. The ninth-place showing was the first of five-straight top-12 finishes for the Gophers. The Gophers' most recent All-American is Stephanie Price, who finished 31st in 2010. Minnesota's all-time highest individual finisher at the NCAA championships is Megan Duwell, who took eighth overall in 2009.
