Minnesota Travels to Fort Worth for NCAA Championships

The No. 8 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team is set to compete at the 2021 NCAA National Championships, with the first day of action in the semifinal on Friday, Apr. 16 in Fort Worth, Texas at 12:00 p.m. CT. The meet at Dickies Arena will be televised live on ESPN2 with Bart Conner and Kathy Johnson Clarke serving as the talent.
Minnesota will compete against No. 4 Michigan, No. 1 Florida and No. 5 California in the first session. There will be four individual qualifiers rotating with the Gophers during the session including Raena Worley (Kentucky) on vault, Maggie O'Hara (Arkansas) on bars, Bailey Bunn (Kentucky) on beam and Abbey Miner-Alder (BYU) on floor.
The second session of the day will take place at 5:00 pm CT and feature No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 3 LSU, No. 6 Utah and No. 7 Alabama.
All rotations were predetermined by random draw prior to the season. After finishing the Athens Regional in second place, Minnesota will begin the meet on vault before competing on bars, beam and closing on floor.
The top two teams from each NCAA Semifinal will advance to the NCAA Championship Final held on Saturday, April 17. Individual event and all-around national champions will also be determined during the semifinal competition, using the highest overall score between the two semifinal sessions.
Last Time Out
The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team qualified for the NCAA National competition after placing second in the Athens Regional Championship on April 3, as the top-two teams from each Regional qualified. The Gophers posted a 197.425 and were second only to Florida who had a team score of 197.700. This is Minnesota's first time qualifying for Nationals since 2016.
Freshman Mya Hooten had a huge performance for the Maroon and Gold, posting a 9.950 on floor and vault. The Woodbury, Minn. native also recorded a 9.800 on bars.
All four of Lexy Ramler's routines earned a 9.900 or above from the judges. Ramler had a 9.950 on beam, 9.925 on bars and a 9.900 on both vault and floor.
The Gophers had two individuals claim Regional titles. Lexy Ramler was the Athens Regional All-Around Champion while Ona Loper was the Athens Regional Floor and Vault Champion.
Texas Natives Return Home
For the first time in their #Gophers careers, Texas natives Maya Albertin and Lexi Montgomery will compete in their home state when they take the floor at Nationals on Friday.
"I am very excited to be able to compete in Texas," Montgomery said. "My first year of J.O. Nationals was actually in Minneapolis and my last competition ever will be in Texas, so it is an emotional rollercoaster that has come full circle. I am very excited to have my family able to be in the stands. They have not been able to be at a meet in a long time, so I am looking forward to having them there."
"I am super excited to return to Texas, as I haven't been home in so long due to Covid-19," Albertin said.
Gophers in the Rankings
Minnesota holds strong at No. 8 overall after being ranked No. 7 last week. The Maroon and Gold is ranked sixth on vault, seventh on bars, fifth on beam and tied for tenth on floor.
Ramler is ranked in the top-25 in each category: all-around (2), on vault (T-5), bars (3), beam (T-1) and floor (T-28). Loper continues to be nationally ranked tied for No. 3 on vault, tied for No. 10 on floor and No. 13 in the all-around. Mya Hooten is tied for fourth in the nation on floor, Maddie Quarles ties for No. 12 in the country on vault and Mary Korlin-Downs is tied for 13th on beam.
Record Setting Gophers
Minnesota set a program record team score of 197.750 at the Big Ten Championships, claiming their first tournament title since 2006.
In their first meet of the season, Minnesota posted their best opening meet team score with a 197.025. This beat the record set last year at Denver when the Gophers recorded 196.475 points.
The Gophers tied their second highest program team score of 197.625 on Saturday, Feb. 20 against Rutgers.
Following the first week of competition, Minnesota earned a No. 4 national ranking which tied for the highest in program history.
At the Big Five Meet, the Gophers set a new program record on bars, scoring a 49.575 team score on the event to eclipse the previous record of 49.525 set on February 15, 2019.
On March 5th, Minnesota tied the program high on floor by scoring a 49.575 as a team on the event. Freshman Mya Hooten recorded the first perfect 10 on floor in Gophers program history.

WCGA Regular Season All-Americans
The Regular Season All-America Award winners for the 2021 season were announced by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) and the University of Minnesota has five representatives on the list.
Student-athletes with the top eight National Qualifying Scores (NQS) for the regular season, including ties, for each event plus the all-around earned All-America honors. Second team All-America honors were earned by student athletes ranked. No 9-16, with ties, in the NQS.
Ramler earned All-American honors in the all-around, vault, bars and beam. Loper was named an All-American on vault and also Second Team All-America on floor and in the all-around. Freshman phenom Hooten was recognized as an All-American on floor. Korlin-Downs was awarded with Second Team All-American honors on beam and Quarles was Second Team All-American on vault.
B1G Awards
Ramler was recently named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year, her third consecutive year winning the award. Ramler earned the nomination in the midst of her stellar senior campaign. She has scored a perfect 10 on both vault and beam, and has also set a new program record in the all-around with a 39.850. Ramler has won 24 event titles so far this season and has been named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week five times. She is currently tied for No. 1 in the nation on beam, No. 2 on bars, tied for No. 4 on vault, No. 23 on floor and No. 2 overall in the all-around. Ramler is also a finalist for the AAI Award, recognizing the most outstanding senior female gymnast in the country.
Senior Hannah Willmarth was named Minnesota's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
