MINNEAPOLIS Laura Bagwell Katalinich has been named a Third-Team Academic All-American®, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Friday.

Recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution in order to be nominated. Due to the variety in games played across conferences and across divisions in college athletics this year, the CoSIDA Academic All-America® contest for basketball was based on career statistics for the 2020-21 academic year.

A Minneapolis native who spent the previous three years at Cornell, Bagwell Katalinich played in 18 games with two starts in her first season in the Maroon and Gold in 2020-21. She averaged 5.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, ranking third on the team in offensive rebounds per game (1.6). She reached double figures four times, including notable performances of 10 points and a season-high nine rebounds against Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament, 12 points and five boards versus Penn State on Jan. 10, a season-high 16 points and five rebounds at Wisconsin on Jan. 3 and 10 points with six rebounds on Dec. 23 against an Indiana squad that reached the Elite Eight.

Bagwell Katalinich, who was one of two Big Ten student-athletes to be honored along with Indiana second-teamer Ali Patberg, attained her undergraduate degree from Cornell in communications and is working toward a masters in sport management.

Now a three-time Academic All-District honoree in her career, including two received at Cornell, Bagwell Katalinich becomes the fourth Gopher to be named an Academic All-American®. She joins two-time recipients Carlie Wagner (2017-18) and April Calhoun (2005-06), as well as current Minnesota head coach Lindsay Whalen (2003).

In mid-April, Bagwell Katalinich announced that she would be returning for an additional season of competition with the Golden Gophers.
