Curran Advances To Semifinals In Illinois State Amateur Competition

Final Day Of Competition Will Be Held Thursday, June 17
Teammates Grace Curran and Emma Carpenter played against each other Wednesday, June 16 at the Illinois State Women's Amateur Golf Competition. Curran beat her Gopher teammate 4&3 in the round of 16 at Pine Meadow Golf Course to advance to the quarterfinals. A two-up victory in the afternoon earned her a berth in the semifinals on Thursday.
It was quite the coincidence that with 48 golfers competing in Mundelein, Curran and Carpenter would be paired in the round of 16. The soon-to-be juniors were all square through six holes, and Curran then went 1 up on number seven and never looked back. She would go 2 up on No. 11 before giving a hole back on No. 12. Curran then won the next threeholes to secure the match.
Later in the day, Curran faced Mara Janess in the semifinals. Janess and Curran traded holes throughout the match and Janess was 1 up through 15. Curran then won the final three holes to win 2 up.
Curran will face Gracie Piar in the semifinals Thursday. It will be the final day of the competition.
