Curran held a lead through the majority of the final
Grace Curran is the winner of the 2021 Illinois State Amateur Championship. Curran defeated Gracie Piar in the semifinals and Duke golfer Megan Furtney in the finals to claim the title.
Curran played well all throughout the tournament, and her success continued on the third and final day of the competition at Pine Meadow Golf Course in Mundelein, Ill.
The New Lenox native traded holes-won with Piar for most of their semifinal matchup, and the pair had to play an extra hole after being tied through 18. Curran was able to finish the 19th hole in five strokes to Piar's six, so she advanced to the finals.
In the finals, Curran held a lead for the majority of the round, as she was one-up or two-up for 12 of the holes played. Unlike in the semifinal, Curran's match didn't go longer than 18 holes, as she held a two-up lead after 17 and the round was sealed.
Quotable:
"This week was a grind, but I enjoyed every second of it," said Curran. "I could not have done it without the love and support from my coaches, family, and teammates. We have all been working so hard and putting in the time, so it is exciting to see some of that pay off. I am pumped to start the summer off on a great note, but excited to see what else this season holds!"
