Gopher Softball Welcomes Lauren Espalin to the Program

Gopher Softball has added Lauren Espalin to the University of Minnesota roster. Espalin, a catcher/designated hitter from San Dimas, Calif., joins the Golden Gophers as a grad transfer after playing with University of California, Berkeley.
During her four-year tenure with the Bears, Espalin played in over 150 Division I games. In 2021, she played in 33 games (28 starts), where she ranked third on the team in hitting (.318) in 85 at bats. Espalin also scored 12 runs and held a .402 on base percentage and a .447 slugging mark. In 2020, Espalin appeared in all 24 games and tied for third on the team in runs (13). She hit .346 in 2019 in 53 games, while she saw action in 44 contests her freshman season.
Prior to her time with the Bears, Espalin played for Orange Lutheran High School and Southern California Athletics club team, where she was a three-time Trinity All-League selection. Â The daughter of James and Deidre Espalin, she was also a National Honor's Society and California Honor's Federation for academic achievements.
