She has now qualified to play at the U.S. Women's Amateur in Rye, N.Y.
Joanne Free qualified for the 2021 U.S. Women's Amateur after shooting a 71 at the Wayzata Country Club on Monday. The 2021 U.S. Women's Amateur will be held from Aug. 2-8 at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y.
It was less than a week ago that Free, a Scotland native, won the MGA Women's Match Play Championship in Dellwood, Minn. Her strong play continued across the metro in Wayzata, as she shot 1-under on the 6,272 yard course.
On Monday, Free holed five birdies and recorded 10 pars. She recorded three straight birdies on holes 12-14 and also endured a two and a half hour rain delay in the middle of her round.
Free's teammates Grace Curran, Leah Herzog, and Emma Carpenter also competed in the qualifier. Curran also shot a 71 and is the first alternate for the event. Carpenter and Herzog shot 75 and 78, respectively.
