MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota soccer program has had four student-athletes honored as 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District first-team members, it was announced Thursday afternoon.

Seniors Athena Kuehn and Makenzie Langdok earned the honor as well as junior Megan Plaschko and sophomore Katie Duong.

Recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the pitch and in the classroom, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution in order to be nominated. First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early July.

The Golden Gophers matched Penn State for the most honorees in the Big Ten. Indiana was the only other school in the conference to have a student-athlete recognized.

Now a two-time Academic All-District honoree, Kuehn started all 12 matches this past year and tied for the team lead in minutes played with 1,147.

Plaschko also played in every match this season with 10 starts and emerged as the team's top goalkeeper, allowing just eight goals for a 0.74 goals against average.

A three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Langdok played in all 12 contests with 11 starts this year. She was third on Minnesota in both shots (23) and shots on goal (8).

A starter in all 12 matches, Duong was an All-Big Ten Second Team honoree this season. She was Minnesota's top distributor with three assists, and she tied Kuehn for the team lead in minutes played.
