Seven Gophers Named to U.S. World Championship Roster

The 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship is August 20-31 in Calgary, Alberta.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. — USA Hockey announced today the U.S. Women's National Team roster that will compete in the 2021 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's World Championship, August 20-31 in Calgary, Alberta. Five alumni and two current Gophers were named to the team. 

The U.S. roster is headlined by 2019 IIHF gold medalists Megan Bozek, Dani Cameranesi, Amanda Kessel, Kelly Pannek, and Lee Stecklein and two currently-eligible Gophers - Grace Zumwinkle and Abbey Murphy.  

Bozek and Stecklein will represent the U.S. at the IIHF World Championships for the fifth time, followed by Kessel (4), Cameranesi (3), and Pannek (2). Zumwinkle and Murphy will each participate in the World Championships for the first time. Zumwinkle was named to the 2020 U.S. roster, but the tournament was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Current Gophers strength coach Cal Dietz and equipment manager Brent Proulx were also named to the USA Staff.

The United States have won the last five IIHF Women's World Championships and have captured the gold medal nine times. All Team USA games in the tournament will air live in the U.S. on NHL Network.
