MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota women's basketball will open the inaugural Women's Battle 4 Atlantis this November against Connecticut, it was announced Wednesday.

The Golden Gophers and Huskies will play in the tournament's opening contest at Atlantis Paradise Island in The Bahamas on Nov. 20, while the next day Minnesota will face either South Florida or Syracuse, depending on results.

The other half of the bracket has Oregon taking on Oklahoma and South Carolina facing Buffalo. The Gophers will play one of those four teams in their final game on Nov. 22.

Minnesota and UConn have met twice previously with the Huskies taking both contests. The most recent meeting came at the 2004 Final Four during head coach Lindsay Whalen's senior season where Connecticut prevailed, 67-58, en route to the national championship.

Game times and viewing options for the Women's Battle 4 Atlantis will be announced at a later date.

Minnesota is set to return 12 of 13 members from last season's squad and welcomes in four newcomers with graduate transfers Deja Winters and Bailey Helgren, as well as freshmen Maggie Czinano and Alanna Micheaux.
