Women's Cross Country Ranked No. 9

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota women's cross country team enters the 2021 fall season as the No. 9 ranked team in the Preseason USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Tuesday.
The Golden Gophers are one of seven Big Ten teams ranked in the preseason poll and two in the top 10. BYU holds the top ranking, followed by NC State, Stanford, New Mexico and Michigan State. Along with the Spartans and Gophers, the poll also highlights Big Ten's Michigan (11), Indiana (16), Illinois (17), Ohio State (28) and Wisconsin (29) in the rankings. Regional rankings also came out on Monday, which featured Minnesota and Illinois as the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams in the Midwest Region. On the men's side, Minnesota is ranked fourth in the Midwest Region.
The Golden Gophers finished fifth at the 2020 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships and return their top-5 from last year. Bethany Hasz finished eighth individually last year. Also posting a top-50 finish for Minnesota in the spring was Abby Kohut-Jackson (45th). Those two also made the final site of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, with Hasz finishing 3rd in the 5000.
The next USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll is slated for Tuesday, Sept. 14.
