Minnesota Heads to Colorado for Golfweek Challenge

The University of Minnesota women's golf team continues its fall season when it travels to Colorado for the Golfweek Challenge at the Red Sky Golf Club in Vail, Colorado. The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days from Sept. 27-29, Monday through Wednesday, on the par-72, 7,116 yard Fazio course.
Competing in the lineup for the Gophers is Geraldine Wong, Joanne Free, Grace Curran, Leah Herzog and Emma Carpenter.
Minnesota will be in the field against BYU, Cal State Fullerton, Central Arkansas, Colorado, Dallas Baptist, Delaware, Denver (host school), East Tennessee State, Kansas, Kennesaw State, Long Beach State, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Pepperdine, Rutgers, San Diego State, South Florida, Washington State, Wyoming and Xavier.
The Gophers are paired with Denver, South Florida and Central Arkansas and will tee off on the first hole beginning at 11:50 a.m. CT.
Minnesota is coming off a 12th place finish at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at the Royal Club in Lake Elmo, Minn. Wong was the top finisher for Minnesota. She carded a 1-under final round to move up 10 spots and end in a tie for 28th with a 4-over 220 (73-76-71). Next after Wong was Free in a tie for 37th. Free's third round saw a 5-over 77 to go 7-over par (76-70-77--223) in the tournament. Carpenter placed 55th in the competition at 16-over par (77-74-81--232). Her two eagles, one in both the first and second round, led the field. Curran posted her best round of the tournament in the final round, shooting a 4-over 76. The junior ended the event in a tie for 56th (79-78-76--233). Rounding out the Gophers lineup was Herzog in 57th place (81-77-76--234).
