Abigail Boreen, Peyton Hemp, and Skylar Vetter all received conference honors following impressive individual weekends.
MINNEAPOLIS – Three Gophers secured WCHA weekly awards following a series sweep over St. Thomas last weekend. Abigail Boreen earned her second WCHA forward of the week, Peyton Hemp took home WCHA Rookie of the Week, and Skylar Vetter nabbed her first career WCHA Goaltender of the Week award.
Abigail Boreen had a weekend to remember as the senior tallied six points (5g-1a) and her first career hat-trick. Boreen, who took home forward of the week honors in October, secured her second career award after leading the team in points and goals in the home-and-home series. The Somerset, Wis. native posted a plus-four rating between the two games. Boreen is in the midst of a career year as she has already shattered her previous season highs in goals, assists, and points.
Peyton Hemp secured her first career WCHA Rookie of the Week honor and the second this season for the Maroon and Gold. The Andover, Minn. native was named back-to-back WCHA Rookie of the Month to start the season, but had yet to earn a weekly award. Hemp recorded three points (2g-1a) over the weekend, including a power-play goal and an eventual game-winner. The forward leads the nation in points by a freshman.
Skylar Vetter becomes the Gophers' third goalie to win goaltender of the week after Makayla Pahl (Oct. 6) and Lauren Bench (Dec. 6) earned the honor previously this season. Vetter had a milestone moment on Saturday, as she stopped all 16 shots to earn her first career shutout. Vetter improved her record this season to 4-2-0 with the win. The Lakeville, Minn. native currently holds a 1.60 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.
No. 4 Minnesota (16-5-1) is slated to face Minnesota State (9-10-1) in a home-and-home series this weekend. Friday's contest will take place in Mankato, while Saturday's will be held at Ridder Arena at 4:00 pm CST.
