Heise, Huber Earn WCHA Weekly Awards

Senior Taylor Heise earns the conference's forward of the week honor, while forward Ella Huber is named rookie of the week following the team's sweep over top-ranked Wisconsin.
MINNEAPOLIS – Two Gophers have received WCHA weekly honor following the team's first sweep over Wisconsin since 2016 this past weekend at Ridder Arena. Senior Taylor Heise was named the conference's forward of the week, while freshman forward Ella Huber earned her first career rookie of the week honor.
Taylor Heise becomes the second Gopher this season to be named WCHA forward of the week this season following her game-winning goal on Saturday. The Lake City, Minn. native tallied two points (1g-1a) in the series and recorded a plus-one rating. Heise earns the honor for the third time in her career and first time this season. The forward had been named WCHA forward of the month and national player of the month in November, but had yet to be awarded the weekly honor. Heise currently ranks first in the nation in points (43) and second in goals (17).
Ella Huber becomes the fourth Gopher this season to earn WCHA rookie of the week – the most in a single season since 2012-13. The freshman forward from Northfield, Ill. scored her fifth career goal on Saturday to tie the contest. Huber currently ranks second on the Gophers in points (15) and goals (5) by a freshman. Huber is Minnesota's second straight player to earn the honor after goaltender Skylar Vetter was given the award last week.
No. 2 Minnesota travels to Columbus to face No. 3 Ohio State this weekend. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CT on Friday and 2:00 p.m. CT on Saturday.
