Welcome the Newcomers: Zoey Weil

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis program adds transfer Zoey Weil to the 2022-23 squad. Weil comes to Minnesota from the University of Washington (UW) to compete in her final season of eligibility. She will be completing a masters degree in Public Policy while at the "U".
During her final season at the University of Washington (2021-22), Weil went 13-6 in singles play including a 6-5 mark in dual play, 12-12 in doubles play as well as 10-8 in dual matches. She also started in the first round singles match in the 2022 NCAA Championships.
Weil graduated from UW with cum laude honors and a bachelor's degree in Geography. She shares her decision in becoming a Gopher, her drive for the game and goals she wants to accomplish while at Minnesota.
Gopher Sports: Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Minnesota?
Zoey Weil: It was an amazing opportunity for me to use the last year of eligibility while earning my masters degree. It also gave me a chance to move to an awesome new city. My recruitment process with Catrina was really seamless and easy, that once I got into my grad program I knew it was where I belonged.
GS: What are you planning on majoring in and why?
ZW: I'm getting my masters in public policy and I am hoping to land a job in DC following graduation.
GS: What drives your passion for the game of tennis?
ZW: I like that you always have things that you can work on, after four years of playing at the collegiate level there is still so much to learn and so many ways to grow. I like that you need to use critical thinking skills as well as athletic ability to be good.
GS: Who is your role model?
ZW: My parents, they are both very hardworking and smart. They provided an excellent example of how to be successful to me as a kid
GS: What other hobbies do you possess?
ZW: I like to cook and try new foods. I also like biking, hiking, and spending time outside.
GS: What do you look forward to the most when moving to Minnesota?
ZW: I really want to try cross country skiing.
